A CARE centre in Salford hosted Avon Fire and Rescue Service recently to say thank you for their commitment to their community.
Firefighters from Kingswood joined residents and their families at Kingfisher Lodge for a BBQ garden party on International Firefighters Day (May 4).
Local children were able to look around the fire engine and even hop inside for a photo-opportunity while wearing dress up firefighters' outfits bought for them by the care centre.
One resident had an incredibly special reason for wanting to meet the firefighters; her father was an assistant fire chief, and she had with her an old photograph of him in his uniform as well as a certificate of his service.
It was all very emotional for her, as she said: “Seeing the fire engine reminds me of my childhood, I’m extremely proud of my father.”
The event was enjoyed by those who attended and the firefighters were sent off with a hamper of treats so that they could show their appreciation.
General manager Claudia Costinean said: “Community emergency services such as Avon Fire and Rescue give us all peace of mind about our homes safety, and we are delighted we could celebrate them today on international firefighters' day.”
