‘What shall we do to celebrate fifty years next April of running the local community minibus?’ asked the Secretary, the other evening at the quarterly committee meeting of the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Community Service Vehicle Trust. ‘Do we have a lunchtime event and invite representatives of our hiring groups along, together with the great and the good and those who have been involved over the years?’
The Secretary had been thinking of a grand continental tour, somewhere warm, but leaving the vehicle at home! But then Treasurers don’t normally like spending their money, so that suggestion straight away received a ‘thumbs down’!
Maybe a trip to Weston to paddle in the sea or a visit to a Garden Centre somewhere followed by fish and chips – as long as the wrappings were not left on the bus! Anyway, a decision was made and now the difficult bit starts, the updating of the forty year booklet to fifty years.
And this is where we need readers of The Journal’s help, please!
If you or your family or friends have been involved with the minibus in any way over the last fifty years, either through your group or former group using it, or having ridden as a
passenger, or having been a driver or looking after the vehicle, the Committee would like to hear from you with your experiences of people who you knew, such as drivers and passengers. You may have a funny story to share!
So please get in touch with Melvyn Johnson (Chairman) on: 01761 452585 or David Shearn: 01761 413473 or indeed any driver/committee member you know to tell all.
The phone lines are open – now! Thanks for listening!
