A COMMUNITY crowdfunding campaign to support The Community Farm, Chew Magna, has reached its initial £50,000 target in under three weeks.

More than 400 donors contributed from across the South West and beyond.

The Community Farm has been operating for 15 years, welcoming around 3,500 visitors last year, including refugees, local schoolchildren and adults experiencing mental ill health.

The farm provides habitats for wildlife species such as dormice and little owls, supplies organic food to more than 500 households each week, and supports over 25 other ethical food producers across the South West.

The response has far exceeded expectations, with messages of encouragement and heartfelt stories shared from supporters who value the farm’s role in nurturing people and wildlife.

Tom Richardson, co-managing director, said: “We have been totally overwhelmed by the generosity of our community. Reaching our initial target so quickly is a testament to how much The Community Farm means to people. Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, and supported us so far.”

Despite this success, the farm’s funding needs for the year are more than £100,000. To help bridge the gap, The Community Farm is now launching a stretch target of £70,000.

Donations will reduce the farm’s reliance on efforts to secure challenging and unpredictable grant funding and will also continue to be match-funded by Aviva until the end of November, doubling their impact.

Every pound raised will help safeguard The Community Farm’s vital work of growing climate-friendly food, supporting nature, and bringing thousands of people together to learn, connect, and take action for a better future.

Donations to the campaign can be made via the Crowdfunder page at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/keep-the-farm-gates-open.

Contributions will support The Community Farm in maintaining its programmes, which focus on sustainable food production, community engagement, and the protection of local wildlife habitats.
