Redfield Road Wives Group
Following the Midsomer Norton Town Council Civic Awards, Margaret Crane was delighted to share her Lifetime Achievement Award trophy and certificate with committee members of the Redfield Road Wives Group.
The AGM and American Supper evening of the Wives Group was the perfect occasion to celebrate Margaret’s remarkable contribution. She has been President of the group for 50 years and a member for almost 60 years. Throughout that time, she has worked devotedly to ensure the group’s continued success, organising speakers, trips, theatre visits, festive parties and much more, all requiring considerable time and dedication, but bringing enormous enjoyment and benefit to members.
Margaret’s volunteering within the community also extends to providing administrative support for Radstock Museum, where she has managed archive records for the past 18 years.
Margaret has certainly earned her Lifetime Achievement Award for the many years she has worked so dedicatedly for the benefit of the community in and around Midsomer Norton.
A big thank you to Margaret and to all the other award winners.
Anyone interested in joining the Wives Group should note that the new season will commence on September 9 at the Masonic Hall, Midsomer Norton, starting at 7.30pm.
Fundraising Evening at Camerton
A successful community fundraising evening in Camerton has raised £2000 in support of cancer services at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
The event, held at Camerton Community Hall, attracted more than 120 guests for what organisers described as a “fantastic evening “of entertainment. The fundraiser was organised by Bryn & Teresa Hawkins, who have long supported the RUH Cancer Unit.
The couple previously presented a donation following a Big Band fundraising event held at the same venue last year. This years event received significant backing from the Somerset Miners Welfare Trust, Janet and Mike Collins whose support proved vital in achieving the impressive fundraising total. Bryn Hawkins, chairman of the Trust, said the contribution from sponsors played a crucial role in the evening’s success. Entertainment was provided by Martin Cox, an acclaimed Elton John tribute performer who tours extensively across the UK and internationally, including on cruise ships and recently a tour of a part of Australia.

“We could not have raised the amount without the support of the Somerset Miners Welfare Trust,” said Mr Hawkins. “Martins generosity also made a huge difference and helped us reach this tremendous total.”
Funds raised will provide support the RUH Cancer Unit’s current campaign to replace superficial radiotherapy equipment, which is used in the treatment of many skin cancer patients. Bath Cancer Unit Support Group welcomed the donation at the presentation at the Dyson Cancer Unit, RUH, Bath. Organisers thanked everyone who attended, donated, or supported the event, describing the evening as another example of the generosity of local people.
