With just a couple of weeks to go until B&NES Council meets to debate the next financial year’s budget, councillors in Peasedown St John have released details of funding requests they have made.
Councillors Karen Walker and Sarah Bevan (Independent) have been in discussions with council leaders since November in a bid to ensure Peasedown St John is not left out of any new spending plans.
Cllr Karen Walker said: “The role of any local councillor is to always put their
community first. On a regular basis, Cllr Bevan and I meet with residents, visit them
in their homes, and discuss issues that matter to them.
“After several months of Advice Surgeries and public meetings, we have put together a wish-list of items that residents have told us they would like to see included in the 2017/18 B&NES Council Budget.”
The proposals, which were first presented to the council’s Resources Scrutiny Panel at the Guildhall in November 2016, are:
• £5,000 for Braysdown Lane safety improvements at the Braysdown Lane/Bath Road junction (this includes the road surface to be coloured red, bollards on the pavement to stop pavement parking, and dropped kerbs to help pedestrians cross).
• £5,000 for a new bus shelter at Ashgrove (to
replace the previous shelter that was damaged after a road-traffic accident).
• £5,000 to move the bus stop on Dunkerton Hill to a location further down the road, which will make it easier for bus drivers to stop.
• £5,000 for Wellow Lane/A367 cycle pathimprovements.
• £30,000 towards the cost of a car park on the Recreation Ground – which will
alleviate some of the parking problems in the community.
• £30,000 for play park improvements in the Eckweek Road Play Area, which councillors say are long overdue.
• £10,000 to implement a 20mph speed limit in Carlingcott.
Cllr Sarah Bevan added: “All of our proposals are based on requests that residents have put to us over the last year.
The funding to implement a 20mph speed limit in Carlingcott is especially long overdue. It was supposed to be introduced in 2012 under the previous council administration, but never happened.”
