A DRAFT Local Plan to be considered by councillors is setting the number of homes to be built in Bath and North East Somerset area at nearly double previous targets.

Land identified during a consultation in 2024 set out a requirement for 14,000 homes over 20 years.

With the government significantly increasing housing targets, B&NES now has to identify land for 27,324 new homes over the next 18 years.

In the draft plan which is to be considered by councillors on September 10, land around Timsbury has been identified for 410 new homes while Clutton and Bishop Sutton have been earmarked for 330 and 280 homes.

Community meetings are being held to consider the draft plan including a Somer Valley Forum on September 16 from 6pm to 7pm (online using Teams), and a Chew Valley Area Forum on September 23 from 6pm to 7.30pm at The Library in Chew Valley School.

Bath & North East Somerset Council’s cabinet is being recommended to agree the Draft Local Plan to go out for a six-week consultation, starting the week of September 14.

If approved, the consultation will be the final opportunity for people to comment on the plan before it is submitted for independent examination.
