Radstock Museum invites B&NES Discovery Card holders to the annual Fossil Hunt on Monday, 24th October between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. for children accompanied by an adult.

Meet outside the museum at 2 p.m. and go with our volunteer team on the fifteen-minute walk to the Batch, where the fossils can be found. Wear stout footwear and outdoor clothes. Bring a small hammer and a bag to take your finds home in.

Goggles will be provided.

If the weather is poor, this event may be cancelled, so please check the website or our Facebook page in good time to avoid a wasted journey. Unfortunately, this activity is not suitable for buggies. Check: www.radstockmuseum.co.uk for more details.

There is also the opportunity to meet the Victorians at Radstock Museum on

Thursday, 27th October, from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Wander back in time to the Victorian days, when the Somerset Coalfield was at

its height. The museum’s education team will be dressed in Victorian costume, acting the roles of the miners, their wives, the shopkeeper, the schoolmistress and more. Chat to the miners and find out how tough life was deep underground, meet their wives and mothers working hard in the home, cleaning, cooking, mending and trying to make ends meet.

See what local people used to buy in the Co-op shop and the old coins they used and see the shopkeeper at work. Visit the schoolroom to see the schoolmistress preparing for the day ahead and dress in Victorian clothes, having your photograph taken against

a Victorian photographic backdrop of Radstock Market Hall. Visitors can also enjoy hot and cold drinks and delicious cakes served up by a Victorian tea lady.

Also on display at the museum, we have some beautiful work by Paulton Junior School Pupils.

Radstock Museum teamed up with WISE: (We Inspire Sustainability Education) and Wiltshire Global Education Centre to run a project called Trade Roots, looking at

Migration and Trade, focusing on the migration of people into the Somerset Coalfield area to work in the coal mines. This Heritage Lottery Funded project will be on

display in Radstock Museum from 22nd October to 30th November.
