Right now, hundreds of young people in Bath & North East Somerset are sorting out their application for undergraduate student finance. The great news is that there are bursaries available for young people in B&NES who want to study Maths, Engineering or Physics at University.
The R W Barnes Bursary Fund was set up in 2007 through Quartet Community Foundation to offer financial aid to undergraduates living within all of BS, BA, & TA, DT plus SP3/7/8, SN10/12/13/14/15, GL9.
To date, Quartet Community Foundation have awarded 284 bursaries totalling £285,590 to help local undergraduate students across these areas.
The grant programme closes to applications on 9th July 2021 and the maximum award is £2,500.
Julie Newman, from Quartet Community Foundation, says: “Ron Barnes, a Somerset businessman and scientist, was passionate about giving young people opportunities. Ron set up his fund with Quartet in 2007, and when he sadly passed away a few years ago this fund increased, thanks to his generous legacy.
“Due to Covid, and the very uncertain past twelve months, many young lives have been put on hold. But Ron’s generous gift means that today many young people can get some financial help to get on with their lives and progress towards their chosen career.”
