One of the West Country’s most talented theatre groups made a visit to Shoscombe Church School last week.
The award-winning Travelling Light Theatre Company, based in Bristol, performed for pupils ‘Vixen’ – an original story by Matt Grinter of a young girl who is turning into a fox.
School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “Children from Key Stage 2 very much enjoyed watching the award-winning show and taking part in workshops with the actors. It explored themes of immigration, bereavement, loss, estrangement and gender issues. All of which we explore with our anti-bullying and PSHE lessons.
“In the story, Saffi is 11. She lives on an estate with her Dad and is turning into a fox. After being scratched by a vixen in the raincoat man’s garden she begins to transform and dreams of running away to live with her fox family.
“The show promotes beauty hidden in unremarkable places, friendships that don’t follow the rules, the things that unite us and a girl aching to belong.”
The Travelling Light Theatre Company creates outstanding theatre for and with young people that inspires their thinking, engages their emotions and fires their imaginations. Since 1984 they have sparked the creative journey of over one million young people in Bristol and the wider area.
As well as children from Shoscombe watching the performance, pupils from St Julian’s School in Wellow walked over to see the performance as well.
