EMERGENCY sewer repairs are set to take place on Portway in Frome next week, with temporary traffic measures in place while Wessex Water carries out essential work.

Wessex Water will carry out essential renovations to the network on Portway from Monday, October 13 with the project scheduled to continue until Thursday, October 23.

Manned three-way traffic lights will be in place on Portway from Monday until Sunday, October 19 the lights on Portway remaining green to allow through traffic to move freely through unless the third traffic light head on Portway Gardens senses waiting vehicles.

Victoria Road will then be closed at its junction with Portway on Monday, October 20, and Tuesday October 21, with a signposted diversion in place before reopening on Wednesday, October 22, under the previous traffic lights arrangement on Portway until the conclusion of the work a day later.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “We’re carrying out an important repair and rehabilitation under Portway on a partially collapsed sewer which is affecting nearby customers’ properties.

“We have written to local customers and businesses to advise them about this essential work and apologise for any inconvenience caused.’’
