A SESSION of planting is planned for the new wildlife pond at Wellow Brook Walk in Midsomer Norton created by Bristol Avon Rivers Trust and contractors, Practicality Brown.
The activity is organised by the new roving Friends of Somer Valley group, bringing people together to care for green spaces across the valley supported by Midsomer Norton Town Council, Radstock Town Council, and Westfield Parish Council.
A spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to say the pond, along with a multi-user dipping platform is now complete and the pond will soon be planted up by the new local volunteer-led, Friends of Somer Valley on Saturday, June 20, making it more attractive for wildlife.

“Ponds are biodiversity hotspots that support more species than almost any other freshwater habitat.
“They provide a crucial water source for drinking and bathing, act as essential breeding and egg-laying grounds for amphibians and insects, and offer a safe, life-saving refuge for wildlife during dry summer months.”
Volunteers will be meeting at Willow Brook Walk at 10am to begin planting. During the session, volunteers will be planting native aquatic and marginal plants that will support a wide range of wildlife.
No experience is needed. The volunteer leader will guide the group through the tasks, and all tools will be provided. Just bring suitable outdoor clothing and enthusiasm!
The spokesperson continued: “We’ll stop for a tea break at the end of the session, 12 noon, we invite everyone to stay for an optional informal chat and debrief to reflect on the session and share ideas.”
Children are welcome at this session but must be supervised by a parent or guardian. Some activities and tools may not be suitable for younger participants.
