A NEW initiative by Somer Valley Rediscovered to attract residents to the refurbished Island space in Midsomer Norton to enjoy Friday summer evenings has received unanimous positive feedback.
Friday evenings of the Beats ’n’ Bites community feasting has been running for four weeks in Midsomer Norton with live music, take away food and a great community feel.
Somer Valley Rediscovered set up trestle tables and benches in the market square to attract people to stop and listen to live music and grab a bite to eat from local hospitality outlets.
Live acoustic music organised by the Community Trust plays from 5.30pm to 10pm.
Music performances so far organised by the Community Trust have included Keith Horler, Sue Harding, Rob Spalding, Chumley Warner Brothers, Helena Eden, Shaun Gilbert, Jon Parry, Kaya Sun Collective, and Kevin Filer duo.
Just one more date remains for the Friday community event on September 4 with Ben & Esther, Igloo, Tom Carneill and potentially a few more lined up to play.
Midsomer Norton town councillors Gordon Mackay and Mandy Taylor have been unanimous in their praise of the organisers, Somer Valley Rediscovered.
Cllr Mackay said: “I can't thank you enough for a wonderful evening at the Island. It was absolutely perfect and you did an outstanding job!
“It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves at our new market square. The feedback has been fantastic.
“I'm looking forward to the next one already! I know lots of people have been involved, so please pass on my thanks.”
Cllr Mandy Taylor added: “I echo Gordon’s thanks. We really enjoyed it. Great atmosphere.
“Very positive feedback, including a request for more tables and seating and I know at least one other high street business will be offering appropriate takeaway provision next Friday.”
