A baton twirling team from Farrington Gurney has won a silver medal representing England at the NBTA European Majorettes Championship in Eindhoven.
Fahrenheit Baton Twirlers faced off against over 1000 participants from 18 countries, including traditional big hitters such as Croatia, France, Czech Republic and The Netherlands.
Teams hoping to represent England European Championships need to first either win a category at the National Championships or place in the top three in a solo or duo event. Fahrenheit would go on to win a total of nine at the Nationals back in June, seven in European disciplines and two in non-European events.
Rosina Deacon Low would also finish second in the Showtwirl solo event, qualifying her for the event as well.
This meant that Fahrenheit brought 31 of the women and girls who would make up the 81 members of the England team, travelling alongside groups from of Trowbridge, Weston-Super-Mare and Taunton.
After a 17 hour trip to Eindhoven, Fahrenheit would compete across eight different categories over four days, from October 10 to October 13.
They put in a lot of preparation for this event, training every Friday at the Farrington Village Hall with some extra Sunday sessions at Norton Hill Sport’s Club, as well as performing at fundraising events, band nights and at bingo to perfect their routine and raise money for the journey.
Throughout the event, Farenheit was able to pick up one of England’s five medals, taking silver in the Senior Traditional Pom Corp, which involved 24 team members of the team.
They had also just missed out on an additional medal, as the Juvenile team placed fourth in the Showcorp Section, using the theme of ‘The Grinch’.
Corp Director for Fahrenheit Amy Pinchen said “As the coach, I must say all of our members really represented England and our area well; working as a team and having lots of fun. All of the routines came together and they were the best the coaching team have ever seen them.
“I do have to say a big congratulations to Rosina for finishing 15th in the Youth Solo Section. At 13 years old, it was a tough competition and her first every individual appearance. We are very proud.”
Fahrenheit will now perform at Midsomer Norton Carnival in November, but after that it will be back to work, now with an opportunity to qualify for the World Championships next August.
