A CAR driver had to be cut free from his vehicle after crashing into a field near Frome early on Saturday (June 6).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue (DSFR) received an emergency call from police shortly after 7 am reporting a person trapped.

Firefighters from Frome were mobilised to the incident in Kilmersdon and found the vehicle had overturned and come to rest on its side, trapping the driver.

They set to work stabilising the vehicle before working on a plan with ambulance crews on to extricate the casualty.

A DSFR spokesperson said: “The incident was under control at 8.30 am after crews removed the windscreen of the car and guided the casualty out through it.

“Once released, they were left in the hands of the ambulance crew.”
