MORE than 350 runners recently took part in the annual Mother Tuckers 10km trail race at the Tuckers Grave pub and campsite near Faulkland.

The event was organised by Radstock’s Somer Athletic Club, which this year also introduced a new 3km race for younger athletes, Little Tuckers.

On October 5, more than 40 marshals guided runners around courses covering bridleways, paths and country roads between Faulkland and Stony Littleton. The event drew participants from across the local area and from clubs in Bristol, Somerset, Wiltshire, Swindon, Taunton and Poole.

Tuckers Grave, known for hosting outdoor events and live music throughout the year, provided a base for runners and supporters to gather before and after the races.

Headline sponsors KinisiRunHub, Mendip Chiropractic and Solsoft provided medals, goody bags and trophies for age category winners.

In the 10km event, Ben Mees of Avon Valley Runners, Trowbridge, finished first in 39:45, while Sarah Williams of Pewsey Vale Running Club was the first woman in 47:46. The new Little Tuckers 3km event included 62 participants, with more than half representing Somer Athletic Club.

The overall winner was Leo Elkington of Salisbury in 13:44, followed by Somer runners Roxy Lear (15:18) and Rachel Marin.

Somer Athletic Club welcomes new members of all abilities and aims to help runners achieve their goals in a friendly and supportive environment. The senior group meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.15pm at the Sports Centre at Norton Hill School.

The Junior (eight to 12 years) and Youth (13 to 17) sections meet on term-time Thursdays at Downside School.
