Bath and North East Somerset Council has completed work on a new footpath alongside a hazardous stretch of road in Tunley, following calls from the Parish Council and residents to make it safer.

The new 400m section links the main part of the village of Tunley with outlying properties at Overdale and the next village of Camerton. Previously, residents had to walk on the road if they wanted to get between the two areas by foot. Construction required a full road closure to allow contractors to carry out the work, which was completed within the six-week school holiday.

Councillor Anthony Clarke (Conservative, Lansdown), Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “I am delighted that the footpath is now in place, making it safer to walk from one end of the village to the other. We thank the public for their patience during this period.”

Martin Robinson, Chair of Dunkerton and Tunley Parish Council, said: “The contractors team working on site were an absolute pleasure to have in our village, they worked hard and went out of their way to assist local residents. This long-awaited footpath allows pedestrians to walk safely from Tunley right through to Timsbury, and is already being well used by local residents. Dunkerton and Tunley Parish Council would like to thank Cllr Anthony Clarke and Cllr David Veale for their support in securing this scheme.”
