For many years, residents living in one street in Peasedown St John have experienced on-going difficulties with missing post, confused courier drivers, and friends and family not being able to find where they live.When Laxton Way was built almost twenty years ago, the houses were numbered in such a way that without an ordnance map, and a reliable compass, it would be difficult to work out which houses are on each side of the road, and which number follows the next!

But now, thanks to a campaign led by veteran Councillor Sarah Bevan (Independent, Peasedown St John), new street signs have been put in place which have finally put an end to years of confusion.

Cllr Sarah Bevan, said: “Residents living in Laxton Way contacted me earlier in the year to share their ongoing frustrations about delivery companies and courier drivers not being able to find where they live. This led to quite severe traffic congestion in narrow cul de sacs with even numbered homes only, when drivers looking for odd numbers became stuck and unable to turn round or reverse out to find odd numbers residences. The danger for other road users was becoming acute.

“I decided therefore to campaign on residents’ behalf for a solution to this historical problem. I’m grateful to the staff at B&NES Council, who I’ve been liaising with over the past six months for these new signs to be erected, which clearly show which houses are where.”

The new street signs indicate where even and odd number houses are located, and in which cul-de-sacs within Laxton Way they can be found.
