VOLUNTEERS and staff at a community centre in the heart of Peasedown are delighted to learn they had been nominated for a Warm Welcome Award.
The Hive on Bath Road in the village is part of the Warm Welcome Space network. There are 5,300 of these spaces across the country: community centres, libraries, churches, community cafes, arts centres, local businesses and schools.
It has been nominated for a Community Connector award, which celebrates partnerships that amplify impact and strengthen communities.
The Warm Welcome Campaign wants everyone in the UK to find a place of belonging and reconnection. It began as a seasonal campaign supporting communities through the coldest time of the year. It's now an all year round campaign, bringing connection, friendship, and human warmth to communities every day, helping people feel less isolated and lonely and boosting wellbeing.
The Hive, a registered charity, has been running as a community centre since 2021 when the Bath and North East Somerset Council could no longer afford to run the building or fund youth work. Residents stepped in to save the building and refurbish it. It now offers a space for the SWALLOW Café, and provides many services to those in need.

Chair of trustees, Joy Fraser, said: “It is fantastic that The Hive has been recognised in this way. We have had a great week.
“We also heard that The Hive has received a grant of £20,000 from Awards for All for our youth work.
“The Hive is completely reliant on grants and donations to provide the community services and run our youth club, so this is brilliant news.”
Awards for All is part of the National Lottery Community Fund.
The Warm Welcome Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on June 17.
