‘Old Down Jazz’ is now well into its seventeenth year of monthly sessions of traditional jazz with The New Delta Jazz Band, which makes it the longest running regular monthly jazz event in Somerset and south Gloucestershire.

However, with audience numbers dropping off a little in recent months, they are looking to attract some new jazz enthusiasts, as well as some ‘lapsed’ ‘Old Down Jazzers’.

The audience and the band, including visiting musicians, all seem to enjoy the friendly, informal atmosphere of the sessions while appreciating the high standard of the music.

For their November session, the band have added a pianist, Shirley Day, who has appeared with them before, and they will be lead by trumpet player, Charlie Prince, also a previous visitor. Two old friends, drummer, John Coad and bass player, Brian Hooper, will join Roger Bonsall in the rhythm section and regular band members, trombonist, Pete Middleton and multi-reeds man, Clive Johnson, will complete the front line.

So why not come along on this coming Friday, 4th November to enjoy a lively session of traditional jazz at The Old Down Inn at Emborough (on the A37), near Chilcompton. You will be made very welcome by Maxine and Dee of The Old Down Inn and by all the members of The New Delta Jazz band. The music starts at 8.30 p.m. There will be the usual raffle and a small admission charge is made.
