Musicians who have been asked to ‘deputise’ for unavailable regular band members, known as ‘deps’, have been a regular feature of ‘The New Delta Jazz Band’s’ regular monthly ‘Old Down Jazz’ sessions this year. These ‘deps’ always enjoy the atmosphere of ‘Old Down Jazz’ sessions and are always made very welcome by the ‘Old Down Jazzers’.

However, for December’s session, all the regular band members are available. Derek Winters, the band’s trumpet player and musical leader, will be travelling up from Penzance and stalwart reeds man, Clive Johnson, and founder member and

trombonist, Pete Middleton, will complete the front line. Colin Bushell, who is often described as one of the country’s finest exponents of the ‘New Orleans’ style of drumming, is free of his commitments and joins banjo player, Roger Bonsall, in the rhythm section. John Massey, from Bristol will complete the line up on bass.

Trumpet player, Dave Robinson, is a professional film maker and has kindly agreed to make a short film of the December session, which the band hope to be able to use for publicity. Also, it is hoped that jazz photographer, Robert Cole, will be taking a few photographs of the band.

To avoid clashing with a Christmas event, the Old Down Jazz session will take place on Thursday, 1st December. The session will start as usual at 8.30 p.m. at The Old Down Inn, Emborough.

So, come along and we will make you very welcome! There will be the usual raffle and a small admission charge.
