A MAJOR housing development could transform the small village of Haydon near Radstock, with land promoters the Silverwood Partnership submitting plans to build 115 new homes on a field off Kilmersdon Road.
The “high quality” homes would be built on a field off Kilmersdon Road, just east of the Grovewood Road cul-de-sac.
The applicant said the development would include a mix of two, three, four, and five-bedroom homes, with 30% classed as affordable in line with Bath and North East Somerset Council’s policy.
However, the application is currently only seeking “outline” planning permission, with full details of the homes to be decided at a later date.
A statement submitted with the planning application said: “The site is available now, is in a suitable location for development and would contribute to the creation of a sustainable community.
“The granting of planning permission for this development would assist in ameliorating the shortage in housing land supply in the district.”
The new housing would be just a 15 minute walk from the centre of Radstock. The application said: “It is closer to the local amenities in the centre of Radstock, than most of the rest of Radstock — and is connected to these via a safe, lit, pavement.”
It added: “The application site has been carefully designed so that it will not only provide much needed housing, but will enhance the local wildlife and ecology. It has also been designed so that surface water will be dealt with on site.”
Earlier this year, the village made headlines after a major fire broke out at a paint workshop on the village’s industrial estate.
