RADSTOCK Food Club has made a meaningful difference to the lives of residents living in and around Radstock by providing access to affordable food.
Now the Food Club is asking residents and businesses to support its mission with donations as food insecurity in the area goes under the radar, they say.
Since reopening under new stewardship from charity SWAN Transport in May 2025, they have supplied around 30 families each week with a varied selection of fresh vegetables, frozen and refrigerated goods, bread and cupboard staples.
Currently the Food Club has had to implement a waiting list for new members to ensure those already registered don’t go away with less.
Research shows Radstock is in the top 10 percent most food insecure places in the country (CDRC, 2023).
“Services like ours are about more than just picking up groceries, they’re about dignity, community, and sustainability,” said Sofia Pekins, Radstock Food Club coordinator. “We’re seeing increasing demand, and with that comes a need for greater community involvement.”
Businesses such as wholesalers, food producers and retailers can also help by partnering with the service, arranging to donate regular surplus stock, or by encouraging their employees to run regular food collections.
“Even small contributions can make a big difference,” Sofia added. “If local retailers and households each gave a little, it would significantly strengthen our ability to serve the community.”
Donations can be dropped at the Radstock Library during open hours, or the Food Club can arrange to collect from nearby locations, or monetary donations can be made via SWAN Transport which will get spent directly on top-up food items.
