MARTIAL arts athletes from Jamie Woodlands Academy in Radstock have been busy recently, competing on the National, European and World stages.

Performing in various disciplines ranging from empty hand forms, weapons forms, Musical Weapons and both points and continuous style fighting, the team have been racking up wins right across the board.

Training several days a week at the full-time centre in Radstock, members of the academy have been pushing their limits with discipline, dedication and determination to take their skills to an elite level and mix it up with the best in the world.

Charis Derrick, Mark Dibley, Ruby Sage, Kitty Howson and Quinn Hutchinson have been travelling extensively with tournaments in Vienna, Germany and at home and have amassed an incredible tally of 14 golds, 11 silvers and three golds across World, European and British championships. Mark and Charis are now invited to this year’s world championships in Australia.

A team of students consisting of Kitty Howson, Zeta Dring, Laura Kingman, John Williams, Fabio Grippa, Max Ransted, Evie Deegan, Charis Derrick and Mark Dibley recently attended the World Martial arts Committee British championships. Again, the team were competing across various disciplines showing their versatility and elite skill level.

The overall medal tally on the day was eight golds, five silvers and five bronzes with the team coming in at an overall 7th place which was an incredible achievement with a smaller cohort present on the day.

Academy instructor Jamie Woodland said: “I am absolutely blown away and couldn’t be prouder of everyone that has put their skills on the line, tested themselves and come out at the top against some of the best martial artists in the world. Those amazing athletes train hard week in, week out and they all are incredible role models.”
