Somer Valley FM radio presenter Jamie Skinner and charity advocate Meg Abernethy-Hope prepare to spend more than 31 hours together in a radio studio in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Radio Interview.
Starting at 9am on Saturday 12th September, the pair will broadcast continuously from the Somer Valley FM studios, attempting to beat the current record of 30 hours and 25 minutes, set almost two years ago in Tanzania by Tumaini Mwenesi and Nickson Minja.
Somer Valley FM is supporting the attempt by creating a dedicated pop-up radio station, broadcasting the entire marathon live on DAB across Bath, Midsomer Norton and the surrounding area, as well as streaming online worldwide and linking into it from the main station.
Jamie and Meg will remain in the studio for the entire attempt, covering a wide range of topics as the hours tick by.
Quite how much sense the questions and answers will make as they approach hour 31 remains to be seen.
Behind the challenge is an important cause, with the pair aiming to raise £5,000 to be split equally between two charities.
Meg has chosen BillyChip, the homelessness and social outreach charity she co-founded in memory of her late brother Billy. The charity provides BillyChip tokens which can be given to people experiencing homelessness and exchanged at participating outlets for drinks and food.
Jamie has selected Beyond, a youth mental health charity working to improve access to mental health support in schools through personalised 1:1 support, online workshops and other opportunities for early, direct and accessible interventions.
Understanding, listening, kindness and opening up sit at the heart of both charities, and they are likely to be equally important in getting Jamie and Meg through more than 31 hours of continuous conversation.
Meg is an actor, model and charity advocate, as well as a Diana Award recipient for her work with BillyChip, which she co-founded in memory of her late brother Billy. She has spoken at events including TEDx and appeared as an actor in Doctor Who.
Jamie is an experienced radio presenter, film journalist and interviewer who has contributed to Film Stories, Picturehouse, BBC Radio Somerset and BBC Radio Bristol.
He hosts The Mental Health Shelf podcast - and writes the film reviews for The Journal!
The challenge follows his decision last year to run the London Marathon in jeans, making this the latest of what he describes as his “Stupid Ideas”.
The world record attempt begins at 9am on Saturday 12th September 2026, broadcasting live on DAB across Bath and the surrounding areas and streaming online.
Guinness World Records sets strict criteria for the attempt, which must be witnessed and recorded. In 2024 in Dar Es Salam, Nickson Minja interviewed Tumaini Mwenesi for the entire duration of the 30-hour record on the topic: "The Potential of an African Lady," aimed at inspiring youth and young women to break barriers.
It was broadcast online via Boresha Radio
