A COUPLE at Somer Valley House care home have marked their 68th wedding anniversary with a celebration attended by family and friends.
Desiree “Des” Davis (88) and her husband, Alfred “John” Davis (92) were delighted to share the day with their extended family, and said: “We had lots of our family around us at Somer Valley House, and the kitchen team made us a beautiful cake.”
Des and John’s love story began 70 years ago at the Pavilion Dance, where they met when Des was 18 and John was 22. Their first date was a memorable weekend trip to Clevedon, which Des still smiles about to this day.

The couple were married in 1957 at Bath Registry Office and have spent their entire life together in and around Bath. Over the years, they’ve raised a large and loving family of six children, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Speaking about the secret to their long and happy union, Des and John offered this heartfelt advice: “Never go to bed on an argument – and always trust one another.”
Rhona Sievewright, the care manager at Somer Valley House, said: “At Somer Valley House, we believe it’s incredibly important to support our residents in celebrating life’s milestones. It was a pleasure to celebrate Des and John’s 68th anniversary with them and their family, and to make their day as special as they are.”
Somer Valley House, operated by Oyster Care Homes, offers 24-hour residential, dementia and respite care for up to 66 people.
