Wanting to get out and explore our beautiful Somer Valley? Why not try Beat the Street, a brand new free, fun initiative that will see Somer Valley transformed into a giant game! We have joined today's launch to see what it's all about.

The Journal's reporter, Claudia, has joined the Beat the Street team to get a first look at the new initiative, here's what she has to say: "We are currently walking through Writhlington with Beat the Street and St Mary's Church of England Primary School for their launch event.

See how far you can walk, cycle, run, scoot and roll in just six weeks. There are great challenges to enjoy and prizes up for grabs.

The game starts today (Wednesday 17th May 2023) and ends on Wednesday 28th June 2023.

How to set it up?

Children aged 11 and under play with a Beat the Street card, which they will receive directly from their school. Anyone aged 12 and above plays with a Beat the Street card that can be collected from a local distribution point.

All players over the age of 13 can create an account online or via the Beat the Street App, but anyone under 13 will need a parent or carer to do this for them. Parents/carers can then add additional family members to their account via our family management feature.

Once an account has been set up, players can connect their card to their player profile. When you're ready to start, use the Beat Box map to plan your route and get going!
