Celebrating twenty years of its supported housing service in 2017, SWALLOW, the local charity supporting teenagers and adults with learning disabilities, is now offering the opportunity of independent supported living at the new housing development at Beecham Place, Midsomer Norton. Thanks to support from B&NES Council and Aster Group, an ethical developer and landlord, four brand new flats have been made available.
Bev Craney, SWALLOW Chief Executive, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our members; they will move into their brand new homes and be able to live independently in the community with support from SWALLOW’s experienced staff. We are very grateful for all the help that we have been given from B&NES Council and from Aster to make this dream a reality.”
Councillor Tim Warren (Conservative, Mendip), Leader of Bath and North East Somerset Council, said: “It is really important that young people with learning disabilities who are able to live independently have the opportunity to do so.
“The SWALLOW charity has been providing support through housing, education and training for twenty years and I congratulate them on their outstanding work in the community. I have visited the charity and have met some of their service users, who benefit hugely from their work. I welcome the availability of these new flats.”
Margaret Wright, Regional Director for Aster Group, comments: “We are committed to supporting our local communities and delighted that we are able to give more people the opportunity to have a home of their own.
“Schemes like these really do help transform lives and we’re proud to play our part.”
