At this time of year, a game of Greensomes or Foursomes speeds a pair of players around a golf course; add in a game of Four Ball BetterBall and the format becomes a Three Game Challenge!
This was the Ladies’ task this week, starting with greensomes, changing at hole seven to foursomes, then again at hole thirteen to Betterball. The pairs had to work out their tactics and order of play to get the best out of their pairing and try to score the maximum number of points available from their 50% combined handicaps.
Twenty two pairs took on the challenge despite the gloomy and chilly weather conditions and for the time of year, some very good scores were recorded.
Lena Warren and Jenny Ahlberg had a birdie two at the fifth hole, which helped them to a score of 35 points for fifth place. Jane Ball and Sandra Hares took third place, beating Carol King and Fiona Hassard on countback after both teams scored 36 points. Denise Baker and Jill Holland had a very good score of 38 points for second spot.
However, the winners had a clear margin of three points over the rest of the field. Jackie Walker and Angela Hudd had a superb score of 41 points, including a birdie two at the fifth hole, to become the Three Game Challenge champions. Jane Ball
