A TWO-DAY discovery ride is planned for this weekend and will give cyclists the chance to discover the Somerset Circle.
Greenways and Cycleroutes Ltd with support from The Strawberry Line Society, are organising a bike ride from Bath to Bath on April 18 and 19.
The Somerset Circle is a proposed 88-mile circular route that utilises and links sections of five long-standing multi-user paths including the Bristol and Bath Railway Path, Two Tunnels Greenway, Colliers Way, The Strawberry Line and the Ashton to Pill Path.
The mostly traffic-free circuit links Bristol, Bath, the Mendip Hills, the Somerset Levels and the coast. About two-thirds (around 50 miles) of this potential route has already been completed and includes the Strawberry Line, Colliers Way, the Two Tunnels Greenway, the Bristol & Bath Railway Path, and the River Avon Trail.
It will include new sections of path that have opened recently and those that are in the process of construction by Greenways at Midsommer Norton, Chilcompton, Masbury, Shepton Mallet and Cheddar.
The ride will start from Bath Abbey at 9am on Saturday April 18, travelling clockwise with stops at Midsommer Norton, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Cheddar where an overnight break is scheduled.
On Sunday April 19, the ride will begin again at 9am from Cheddar and travel via Yatton, Clevedon, Bristol and back to Bath.
A spokesperson said: “The core group of riders is by invitation only and is being restricted to approximately 25 to 30 riders to avoid congestion on the path.
"It is not a race. It will be at a very leisurely pace and take a full day considering reception stops and lunch breaks.
“Further details will be available on the SLS social media channels and via the volunteer WhatsApp groups and we hope to see as many of you as possible along the route cheering the riders on as they pass by.”
