This challenge involved swimming 5km on Friday, 6th May and again on Saturday 7th and again on Sunday 8th, thus completing a 15km distance over the weekend. Kezia set herself this challenge so she would have a goal for her Bronze DofE. The triple 5km seemed like a genuine challenge having completed a single 5km swimathon three years ago whilst at primary school.

Kezia joined the swimming club just after Covid, and since joining has really appreciated the support and guidance from the coaches to help her prepare for this challenge.

Not being content with the challenge of completing the distances, Kezia also decided that she wanted to complete each 5km in under two hours. The coaches at the club were fantastic in supporting Kezia to hone her techniques and her tumble turns, which really boosted her confidence to tackle this challenge head on. Friday night’s swim was at Wincanton Sports Centre and she completed the 5km in 1 hour 50 minutes. Saturday’s swim was at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre and completed in 1 hour 47 minutes. The final swim at Henbury Leisure Centre was probably the hardest, but completed in 1 hour 53 minutes.

This challenge comes at a particularly poignant time for the family - Kezia’s great grandfather Harold Turner, a lifetime honorary member of the NR Swimming Club, passed away a number of weeks ago and his funeral - a celebration of all his life achievements was just last week. She also has a very close friend who is now battling cancer. Kezia has been very grateful for the support, the wishes for good luck and the donations she has received - currently totally around £400.
