On Saturday Norwest celebrated the 2017 season with its annual Presentation Evening and what a glittering success it was. The atmosphere was electric as members eyed up the sparkling silverware on display waiting for the winners to claim their trophies.
However, first things first, and that of course was dinner. We were treated to a superb four-course meal, followed by coffee and mints, all courtesy of Mandy’s Buffet.
Our thanks go to Mandy and her team, who did a splendid job under difficult circumstances but judging by the empty plates it was a great success.
We also have to thank Brian and all the helpers behind the bar who kept our glasses topped up, which helped to make the evening go with a swing.
This was Mary’s first official duty as Club President and she certainly seemed to enjoy it, judging by all the kisses she received when handing over the trophies.
We were pleased to welcome Alison and Terry, representatives from Dorothy House, who joined us for dinner.
Afterwards, Mary’s first job was to present a cheque for £750, which members have raised during the season for the Hospice, in memory of Maggie Collins, our former club secretary. Club member, Eric, Maggie’s husband, then handed over a cheque for a further £1,000 collected from donations made in Maggie’s memory.
We were then joined by Ken Wilkinson, who presented the club with a trophy in memory of his wife, Anne, who recently passed away. Anne was our Ladies captain and was a much valued member of Norwest.
After this the Presenta- tion of the trophies began.
The competition results were: Ladies: Four woods – Marilyn Trophy, Ann Woodham, runner-up, Lyn Frampton. Singles, Two woods – Ladies Presidents Trophy, Avis Heley, runner- up, Ann Woodham.

The highest scoring rink was won with a 46-7 win against Fosseway by Dave Hill, Graham Pitt, Aaron Delamont and Martin Tincknell.
Last but not least, our ‘Club Person of the Year’ this year went to me! Apparently they seem to think I do a good job as Norwest’s scribe, doing my bit in The Journal and dealing with publicity and the website.
Finally, Mary presented Mike Briggs with an engraved clock in recognition of his seven years’ service as men’s Captain, a justly-deserved accolade.
And, as always, we finish with the thank yous. Firstly, a big thank you to Rex for not only his sparkling success with the silver polish, but also for sorting out all the trophies and of course for organising the competitions in the first place.
Thanks also to Mike, who ably assisted Rex, and to Mary for not only doing the actual presentations but for all the many ‘behind the scenes’ jobs which she undertakes.
Lastly, a big thank you to everyone who helped in any way to make the 2017 Presentation Evening the success that it undoubtedly was.
