On 9th February, sixteen lady members enjoyed a superb lunch at La Campagna Restaurant, Paulton – our thanks to the staff for making us so welcome. During the lunch, the ladies agreed on Pat Stock carrying on as Captain, with Joyce Denning as Vice-Captain. Pat was thanked for her work during the last season.
Several members and friends made our annual trip to the Dorset Bowls Resort for Valentine’s weekend. The bowls matches were friendly and competitive with one team exceeding all expectations, winning all their matches. The team were Carol and Ray Mears and Andrew and Matthew Elley. Runners-up were another team from Paulton, led by Bob Richards, along with Roger Lucking, Dennis and Sylvia Harwood.
On Saturday evening, 27th February, 28 members and friends met at the club for a quiz and although some found some of the questions a bit difficult, everyone had a fun and enjoyable evening. Each team was supplied with a joker to double their score on one round, but one team consisting of four, they know who they are, wanted to play their joker on the only round that wasn’t allowed – but the referee was having none of it! At half-time, everyone enjoyed their own picnic supper.
At this stage, several teams were contesting first place, but during the second half, one team pulled away. The evening ended with a raffle and the announcement of the winning team, consisting of Martyn and Sheelagh May and Trevor and Jane Bridcut. Thanks go to all who attended and brought raffle prizes and congratulations to the winners.
