Oh,what an amazing time we all had at this year’s Presentation Evening! The atmosphere was buzzing as 51 members enjoyed an excellent four course meal. Club President, Eddie, then presided over the presentation of the trophies, ably assisted by Rex and Anne. It was noted that he seemed to enjoy presenting the Ladies’ trophies more than the Men’s – could it possibly be because of the accompanying kisses?

The highest scoring rink was won with a 40–7 win against Sydney Gardens, by Mark Kite, Roy Selway, Graham Pitt and Keith Coombes. Last, but by no means least, our very special award of ‘Club Person of the Year’ went to Paul Hill for his hard work and dedication to Norwest. Mike, our Men’s Captain, stated that he did not think he would have managed this season without Paul’s invaluable help.
All the trophies having been presented, it only then remained for Eddie to present some thank you gifts to retiring club officials. Firstly, to Ken and Anne Wilkinson. Ken has been our Bar Manager for several years, but has retired due to ill health and Anne has been his invaluable assistant. The second presentation went to Eric Obern, who for very many years has been our Match Secretary, not an easy job, but he’s done it brilliantly. Thank you to all of you, you’ve done Norwest proud.
A big thank you goes to Rex and Anne for wielding the silver polish once more this year and organising the trophies and also, as I think we sometimes forget, for organising all the competitions in the first place. Another great big thank you goes to Mary for organising the meal. Thanks also to everyone who helped to make the evening go with a swing!
And now, I’m pleased to report that Brian completed his sponsored walk, 150 times around the Norwest green and no, he didn’t make any dents in the green, but he did manage to raise the grand sum of £422 for the Floodlight Charity Bowls league. He has asked me to thank everyone who helped him raise such a tremendous amount. Well done, Brian.
Last Saturday it was Christmas all the way at Norwest when we met up at the club to ‘Step into Christmas’. Well done to Keith, Mary, Kath and Tony, whose team, ‘No Frills’ carried off the first prize, while Mary, Cilla and Clayton claimed the sought after wooden spoons. Thank you to the few who donned the festive jumpers and all those who brought raffle prizes. Also, thanks to Ann, our marker, Chloe, our games supervisor, Ben, for help ‘decking the hall’, Gerald, on the bar, and everyone who lent a hand.
