On 6th August, Fosseway Bowlers had some devastating news. Their great friend, Ray Soby, passed away. Ray and his wife, Celia, joined the club just after it was formed in 1986.

Ray was Club Secretary, which he had held for many years. Fosseway Bowls Club was his second home, where he spent many, many hours taking care of the official side of the club, and also the bar. He was also the contact for Somerset Bowls Association.

He will be greatly missed by our Bowls Club, and all other clubs in the area. A Thanksgiving Service for Ray will be held at St John’s Church, Farrington Gurney, on Tuesday, 28th August at 1 p.m. Family flowers only, and donations can be made to Forever Friends at the RUH and Cancer Research, and you are welcome afterwards at Fosseway Bowls Club.

The Ladies have had two NS League games this week. On Tuesday, Stothert and Pitt joined us, and Fosseway won on two rinks, lost on one and won overall, so claimed eight of the ten points. On Thursday, we played Bloomfield and won on one rink, lost on two rinks (one by one shot) but won overall, so gained six points to four.

On Friday we turned out to play Shepton Mallet in the MSL Mixed League, only for them not to turn up. Apparently, they resigned from the League, due to lack of players. So we had a game amongst ourselves and had a lovely ploughman’s supper. Thanks to Della and Carole Cocks.

Saturday was Inter-club Triples Competition day. This was played to the Final, which will be played at a later date. The two winning teams are Pat Wallis, Sue Burke and Dave Yarlett, who will play Geoff Moore, Steve Watson and Carole Jenner-Tims. AM
