Although it’s been a quiet week for bowling as all the League games have now been finished, this cannot be said for the weekend, as this weekend we held our Club Competition Finals.

The games began on Saturday morning, when the weather was really good. The first game was the Open Mixed Triples between Sue Burke, Mike Hamblin and Carole Jenner-Timms and Stewart MacFarlane, Dave Cocks and Alan Scott. Carole’s team came out winners.

After lunch served by Carole Cocks and Sue Yarlett, it was the turn of the Club Championships. The Ladies Championship saw Carole Jenner-Timms and Thelma Chun who gave us all a very good game to watch, the win going to Carole. The game went to 19 to 18, with Carole taking the two shots to win. At the same time Steve Watson met Dave Yarlett, with Dave winning 21 shots to 15. The last game on Saturday was a bit of a family affair, with Julie MacFarlane taking on hubby Stewart in the Novices Cup. It was a very good game, with Stewart just winning.

Sunday was a different story weather-wise. The day started off with rain and saw Anne Morgan take on Carole Jenner-Timms in the Two Wood competition, Carole coming out winner at 15 shots to 10. At the same time the Invitation pairs was being played, where Sheila Davis and Dave Cocks were winners over Sue and Dave Yarlett. (Mind you, Dave Cocks was bribed to play well with chocolates from Sheila, and they say Dave will do anything for a bar of chocolate).

Again thanks to Carole Cocks and Della, lunch was served. The weather was very changeable, one minute pouring with rain, the next nice sunshine. The games after lunch were Open Championship, where Dave Yarlett beat Carole Jenner- Timms. The same two played later in the afternoon in the 101 Championship, with Dave again coming out winning. The other game was the Men’s pairs, where Martin Long and Stewart MacFarlane beat Mike Satterthwaite and Dave Cocks.

Thanks must go to all the ‘Markers’ also for all the supporters who came and watched. It makes all the difference when there is a decent crowd. A big Thank You must go to Dave Yarlett who organised all the competitions and sorted the games out for the Finals weekend.

Don’t forget, Friday, 27th September is the annual MacMillan Coffee Morning, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
