Hi, I’m back! Sorry I haven’t written for a few weeks, but I have been without a computer, so now I am back (when there is anything to report). I expect you’ve all forgotten about Captains’ day, but just to make it all official, here goes.
The afternoon started with the ‘spider’, which was won by Rex Padfield, who donated his winning litre of whisky back to the club. This was auctioned and £25 was collected for the club.
We had three rinks and three triples playing. The weather was good and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The Captain’s Team beat the President’s Team 91 shots to 76. The highest winning rink was Allan Ford, Alby George and Dave Yarlett, while the highest losing rink was Steve Watson with Ted and Sheila Davis.
After a very enjoyable two-course meal, Dave thanked everyone for joining in this end-of-season event. He thanked Carole, Della and Pat for the meal and everyone else who helped, along with Celia and Julie for the bar. Dave said he was glad to see everyone working as a “club”.
During the season, we have been carrying on with the ‘Wine Draw’, which was started by one of our members who is no longer with us. The draw for this was done on Captains’ Day, and for the first time ever was won by one of our own members, Sheila Davis.
Elsewhere, Sue Burke thanked everyone who attended the Macmillan Coffee Morning and reported that £264 had been raised.
Don’t think that because the bowling season is over, that’s it until next April! There are a few social evenings being arranged. The first is a Table Top Games evening on 21st October, with a curry evening on 4th November. All information for these evenings can be obtained from Celia.
Also, if anyone has got some free time and energy to spare, contact Dave Yarlett to find out what maintenance work needs to be done and when a working party is being arranged.
