Well, they say all Press Officers are allowed one mistake per article; well, sorry to say I made two last week! The first one was in the Fosseway Bowls Club Mixed pairs, which should have read that Sheila Davis and Ray Soby were the winners. The other was a total omission; Reg Morgan and Mike Poulter beat John Emm and Dave Yarlett in the men’s pairs.

Last Monday night saw the Final of the Monday club night Triples. This was the six members who had played over the whole of the season. The winners were Albi George, Alison Wheaton and Dave Cocks, who beat Barbara Thatcher, Bob

Jenner and Alan Ford.

Tuesday saw the Floodlight competition start with four rinks of Triples. The weather was much better than the week before, and after soup and a roll, the four winners played the Semi-Final.

The final was played on the following night between, Mike Satterthwaithe, Dave Cocks and Carole Jenner Timms, and Alan Scott, Sheila Davis and Roger Meadows. After an excellent game, which was very close in the end, Roger’s team won.

The last game of the season was played on Captain’s Day. Before the game, Gordon Willcox, who supplies twelve bottles of very fine mixed wines, carried out the draw, which has been running during the whole season. The winner, for the first time ever, was one of Fosseway’s members, Sue Burke. Geoff Moore also came out the winner.

A spider was held at the start of the afternoon and was won by Richard Andrews. Six rinks of triples played eighteen ends.

The Ladies Captain’s teams beat the Men’s Captain’s team, 121 shots to 83. The highest winning team on the Men’s Captains side was Mike Satterthwaite, Molly Bowring, and Mike Chun, and the highest winning Ladies Captain’s team was Rod Bruce, Stewart MacFarlane and Marion Allen. Each were presented with bottles of wine.

A presentation was made to Tony Cooper and Celia Soby for the delicious meal they gave us, and Ray Soby for keeping our glasses topped up.

A presentation was also made to Reg Morgan on his 80th birthday. A lap tray to His Lordship and two mugs to His Lordship and Ladyship!

We are pleased to announce that our Ladies team were runners-up in the North Somerset League and the Mendip League, so well done ladies.

Don’t forget the Coffee Morning on Saturday, 30th September in aid of Macmillan Nurses. Starting at 10 a.m, please come along and support Sue Burke in this event.
