The Ladies section of Fosseway Bowls Club started their week with a visit to Victoria Bowls club in Weston-super-Mare. The weather was very good, and we managed to come away with six of the ten points, winning on one rink and winning the overall game.
The Thursday game was less favourable for Fosseway; we visited Wrington and only won on one rink and put this down to the fact that the game was on their artificial green. We came away with two points, which was an achievement. The hospitality was great and the cream tea we were given after the game compensated for the bowls and wet weather.
Our next game in the Mendip League was against Isle of Wedmore, but even though they turned up at our green, it was decided to cancel the game due to the very wet weather. This game will now be re-arranged.
The Men played their first County League game on Saturday at Frome Park and won on one rink, so came away with two points.
Thursday saw the Top Club Competition played at home against our neighbours from Norwest. It was a very friendly game, with Fosseway winning on the Four Wood Singles and the pairs, but losing on the Two Wood Singles, Triples, and Fours. So, Norwest now go through to the next round and we wish them all the best.
Friday was our first MSL Mixed game, which was played at Street, a new venue to Fosseway, as we are now in a different league. Our first game in this league was very enjoyable and the sun even came out, but unfortunately we lost on all rinks.
The Men’s County League game on Saturday was against Paulton at home. Rain interrupted play a few times, but they managed to play the full 21 ends on each rink, winning one, losing one and drawing on the third, but Fosseway won overall, so came away with nine of the twelve points.
On Saturday we held our annual Plant Sale and Coffee morning, with a good turn-out. Coffee, tea and homemade cakes were served by Celia and Carol. Thanks to Sue for growing and selling the plants and organising the sale. The money made is being held over to our Autumn Sale, when the total raised will then go to Macmillan Nurses.
On Sunday, the Mixed game was again against Paulton, but on their green. It was a wonderful afternoon of bowls, with Fosseway winning on all four rinks.
Don’t forget practice evenings on a Monday, but remember it will be Tuesday, 30th May because of the Bank Holiday. New members will be most welcome to come along and try the game.
