Purnell Bowls Club men completed the Somerset County League season with mixed fortunes.
The A team have been particularly frustrated, finishing the season losing by four shots to Clevedon and three shots to Bath. Although managing to escape relegation, the results have not been a fair reflection of their season, having lost a few of their games by very small margins. Whilst leading on many occasions most of the way through their games, they have lost several games at the final hurdle. Meanwhile, the B and C teams have had good success, both finishing mid-table, bearing in mind that many of their opponents were A team opposition.
With the outdoor season drawing to a close, the men are taking part in the annual floodlit Charity Matches with the local clubs, and a report of this will be published when the final results are known.
Shortly, the Purnell Indoor Bowls season will commence, and plans are now well in place for a start on Monday, 17th September, with a full programme of leagues for Ladies, Men and Open, from 9.15 a.m. to 8.15 p.m. Once again, we will be welcoming new members to indoor bowls, but there is plenty of opportunity for either novices to the sport, where our coaches are only too willing to be of assistance, or for outdoor bowlers who have not experienced the joys of indoor bowls. Not only does it provide gentle exercise, but helps to pass the winter months away in a pleasant friendly atmosphere. So, if you are looking for another activity rather than spending hours sitting in a chair watching television, come and give it a try. Don’t feel embarrassed about giving it a go as we hold special sessions for new members, and remember, you get free membership for your first year.
