As with last week, it was another of two halves, as we suffered losses in our first three games.
The Ladies lost both their games, the first a Wild League game against Paulton and the second was a North Somerset league game against Bloomfield. Considering we are so desperately short of Ladies and often play one short, we still managed to put up a good fight and at least claimed two points from each game. I would like to say a special thank you to Cilla, who, although she only started playing very recently, has turned out for several league games already.
The third lost game of the week was a Men’s MSL game against Paulton, for which they only managed to claim one point.
Now the second part of the week and once again it’s much better news. On Friday evening, Stothert and Pitt made a re-appearance at our green to finish off the MMSL game which was started the previous week. This time we were lucky – no thunder, no lightning and no rain, although overcast, the weather was much kinder and the game was completed, with Norwest taking ten of the twelve points on offer.
On Saturday our good fortune continued, with both our Men’s teams claiming victory in their County League East games. The A team played Keynsham B and won 8–4 by four shots, while the B team played the men of Stothert and Pitt and won 11–1 by 27 shots. Brilliant results lads, keep it up.
Sunday saw the sun shining for our third annual Fun Day. It was a glorious afternoon and although our numbers were down, and consequently, our takings were also down, everyone who came along seemed to have a great afternoon. There was Haggis Hurling, Target Bowls, Jack in the Box, Fishing for Ducks, Find the Jack and many more games to keep both young and old happily occupied.
The tombola was a particular favourite, doing a roaring trade with Ann dishing out prizes, right, left and centre. The tantalising smell of onions and burgers let us know that Harold and Bett, our barbie supremos, were once again dishing up the goodies, while Ken and Anne manned the pumps to keep us in liquid refreshment. Thanks to all four for a sterling job.
I would also like to thank anyone else who helped in any way and a very special thank you to those of you who made the effort and turned up to support us. We made £259.24
towards club funds which was great, but our fun day is primarily a social, family event and that’s just what it was this year, judging by all the happy smiling faces.
