Norwest Bowls Club’s Ladies held their Autumn meeting on Saturday, which I’m pleased to say was well attended. The meeting started with a minute’s silence for one of our former members, Barbara Golledge-Bowell. It’s several years since Barbara has played, but we were saddened to hear of her passing. Barbara was quite a character, and our Ladies shared some fond and amusing memories of her. The meeting continued with some hotly contested discussions, but was concluded as usual with tea, cake and a good old natter.
I must apologise for missing The Journal last week. It was one of those Mondays and the day went from bad to worse – although I had my item ready, I just forgot to send it in before the deadline. Even so, it was on The Journal’s website, so a big thank you to Becky for putting it online.
Our fun Fish and Chip skittles started last Friday and it was nice to see the clubhouse so full. Keith and Dennis have run this for several years now, and it has been very successful. It’s very lighthearted and anyone who would like to come along for a few drinks and to cheer the skittlers on will be very welcome. It’s a great way to keep in touch with fellow members during the ‘off’ season.
Another popular event took place on Sunday, when Ann Woodham provided members with one of her superb Sunday lunches. Although I couldn’t make it I’m sure it was a great success as usual. Thanks go to Ann and all her team for their hard work.
Now, a few dates for your diaries: There’s a games evening on Saturday, 15th October. As usual, there will be a raffle and an American Supper. I’m sure it will be a fun evening, so please come along and show your support.
The Men’s meeting is on Sunday, 16th October at 10.30 a.m. We hope to see a good turnout for this, as it’s important that our members have their say as regards any changes they would like to see for next season. Any motions proposed at either the ladies’ or men’s meetings will go forward to the AGM which is on November 6th at 2.30 p.m.
In November, there are two dates to remember. The Presentation evening is on the 19th and on the 26th, we will be ‘Stepping into Christmas’.
