A welcome return to playing outside as a new season started for Paulton on Friday, 14th April with a social evening, however there was no bowls due to the inclement weather which precluded the use of what looked, and later proved to be, a beautiful and very tempting green.

However, it was good to see so many members, both old and new, coming to celebrate the occasion.

Our first game was therefore the Bowls England Top Club competition on Sunday, 23rd April. This saw us hosting Bristol Bowls Club, unfortunately, despite winning on two rinks with the pairs and triples and with the other contests being keenly fought, Bristol prevailed on the other three rinks to win overall.

Thursday 27th, the club participated in the national Mens Two Rink competition, this time hosting Congresbury in what can only be described as very wet and cool conditions. After a good start by Paulton, we tapered off along with the rain and the light, with the final outcome a win for the opposition on both rinks and by twenty four shots.

Let’s hope the ladies and the men’s teams have more luck with the friendlies against Keynsham and Bloomfield, respectively, next week.
