It’s a bit like buses and policemen; can’t find one when you want one, and then two come along at once. Well, that was my experience this week.
It is years since I went to the ballet, and this week, I’ve been treated to two performances. A visit to Frome Memorial theatre for the Vienna Festival’s Cinderella, which was excellent, and a rather less than perfect ‘arabesque’, courtesy of Bob, when we met Purnell in an MMSL game on Friday evening.
Overall, it was a great game, with Norwest winning on two rinks, and overall by one shot, taking ten of the twelve points. Purnell did win on one rink, but I wonder if that was due to Bob and his diversionary tactics?
Our Ladies didn’t fare so well this week, unfortunately, losing both their North Somerset League games. The first game, on Tuesday, was at home to Stothert and Pitt where we at least managed to get two of the ten points, unlike our Thursday game away to Purnell, when we lost all ten points. We put this defeat down to a very hot afternoon and an extremely challenging green, which even the girls from Purnell found difficult.
Our lads once again came up trumps in their MSL game against Paulton on Wednesday evening, winning 14–2 by forty shots. While on Saturday, in their friendly against Winscombe, they only won by ten shots. Tut, tut boys, you’re slipping there!
In the Men’s County Triples competition, Eddie, Dave and Roy were unfortunate to meet a crack team from Bath, who put an end to their chances, while Aaron, Merv and Graham have won through two rounds so far, but they have now drawn another team from Bath for their next game. We’ve all got our fingers crossed for you lads, and hopefully, history won’t repeat itself!
On Sunday we were off on an away day to Sidmouth. We were extremely lucky with the weather and suffered none of the thunderstorms which were promised. It was a super day, enjoyed by all, even if Sidmouth did beat us, hands down. Thanks to all who had a hand in the organisation and to Billie from John Martin Coaches, who delivered us safe and sound back to Norwest.
