Oh wow! I’ve had information coming at me from all directions this week, that’ll teach me not to moan. Thanks to all for your text and emails, keep it up, please.
Firstly, I hear it through the grapevine that we have some serious ‘hotshots’ in Norwest. Skip, Eddie Nott and his rink of Barry Raikes and Dennis Hancock, with Roy Selway for one and Dave Hill for the other, managed to score not one, but two hotshots in the last two weeks. Well done lads, that’s some ‘hot’ bowling.
Now for the week’s results and there are lots, seems to have been one busy week at Norwest. As tradition demands, we’ll start with the ladies first and it seems that things are a little brighter. Two games, the first, a North Somerset league game against Bath, we actually managed to put out a full team, even if it did include our very new lady, Jo, who so far has only been with us for a few roll ups. We didn’t win, but managed to get four points in what was a very close game. On Thursday, it was a Wild League game at home against Prattens and yes, we won by 10 whole shots giving us 9 of the 12 Points on offer. Well done ladies, perhaps things are on the up and a special thanks to Jo and a warm welcome to Norwest.
Our mixed game in the MMSL was a re-arranged game against Purnell. We only managed to scrape by with two points after a bit of a thrashing, but it was an enjoyable game all the same.
And now for the men: unfortunately, their run in the Top Club competition came to an end when they went to Clevedon Prom. In the words of one of the players: “We were well beaten”, but they all agreed that it was one of the most enjoyable, competitive games they’d ever played, the Clevedon men being really friendly and the green a pleasure to play on. It was a similar result in the Turnbull Cup when they lost out to Weston, Bath. Never mind lads, it’s into the Plate competition now, where you’ll meet Bloomfield in the first round. Good Luck.
Their MSL game on Wednesday against Prattens was cancelled, but on the Thusday, they played a re-arranged game against Purnell and following on in the same vein they lost this 2–14.
But now for the good stuff: In the men’s Somerset County League East, both our teams are lying in second place, with the A team being unbeaten so far. This week’s results are also good news, with the A team winning 11–1 against Knowle B while the B team won 10–2 against Weston, Bath. Great stuff boys, keep it up.
To wind down after a very busy week, our members welcomed the bowlers from Spencer Moulton Bowls Club for a friendly game. It was a nice sunny, warm afternoon and the company was great, even if the game was hard fought with Norwest winning by 7 shots overall. A nice relaxed ending to the week.
After all that information, it’s just a quick reminder, the 101 competition started this week. It’s on Monday evenings and it’s great fun, even if the scoring is a bit confusing at times. You just turn up with your kit and enjoy!
