The cards were flying across the green baize and the roulette ball was spinning on Saturday evening when members met at Norwest for the Casino evening.
Although we were a bit thin on the ground, those who did turn up had a very enjoyable time pitting their wits against the croupiers with varying amounts of success. I first tried my hand on the roulette wheel, where I saw the first of my chips disappear into croupier, Brian’s hands, while my granddaughter seemed to instantly find a system and be raking it in. My visions of making my fortune were soon dashed when I took a turn at the poker table, where Rex was our croupier and with me being a novice at the game, he soon relieved me of all my chips. As a last resort, I had a go at the pontoon table, which was under the watchful eye of our lady croupier of the evening, Ann. True to form, my money continued to dwindle and I ended the evening bankrupt, but thankfully, all my losses were literally plastic and not the credit card type!
A big thank you to Ann Woodham for organising the evening along with her team of croupiers, Rex and Brian, Ayeisha and Chloe our raffle queens and Mary, our barmaid. Thanks also to everyone who turned up and provided food for the American supper and raffle prizes. Overall it was a great evening and seemed to be much enjoyed by all.
Just a reminder that our Friday evening Fish and Chip skittle league is still in full swing. You don’t have to actually play skittles or be in a team to go along and have a few drinks and a catch up with fellow bowlers and friends. It’s just great to have an evening out and a little convivial company during the long winter months and if enough of you are willing, you may even get a game of ‘killer’ to round the evening off.
And last but not least, a few dates for your diary: February 13th – Rex’s quiz: March 12th – ladies spring meeting: March 19th – Subs evening: April 2nd – Spring Extravaganza and on April 11th, weather permitting the green will open for the new season.
