Things looked a little rosier for our ladies this week when they managed to win one of their two games. On Tuesday, they went to Fosseway to play a North Somerset League game on an extremely hot afternoon. After 15 ends it was decided to call a halt to proceedings and everyone repaired gratefully to the clubhouse for a much needed cuppa. The result was a 0–10 defeat for our ladies.

However, things were very different on Thursday when we went to visit the ladies of Paulton for a Wild League game. Again, the match was cut short, but this time it was the rain that did for us. Although we were somewhat soggy, the ends we did play were thoroughly enjoyable and this time the result was in our favour with Norwest’s ladies claiming 10 of the 12 points on offer.

Once again our men have not fared so well. On Wednesday they welcomed the men from Purnell to our green for a Mid-Somerset League game, which unfortunately they lost 15 – 1 and on Saturday, the outcome was similar when the A team played away at Frome Park and they lost 12–0. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that next week things go better for you lads.

The real triumph of our week came in the friendly games where we not only won, but had a couple of really super games. The first game on Saturday was away to Spencer Moulton, where we were given a very friendly welcome on a lovely sunny afternoon. It was a hard fought game which saw us draw on rinks with Norwest winning overall on shots. After the game, we were treated to a super tea and enjoyed a few drinks along with quite a lot of chat and laughter.

Our second friendly was on Sunday, this time against our old friends at Paulton and it turned out to be a slightly damp affair, but the weather certainly didn’t manage to put a damper on the game. There were lots of high spirits and much banter on the green from both sides. A certain lady who played on rink three and who shall remain nameless, managed to earn, somewhat unfairly I thought, a reputation for lucky wicks, while on rink four, our players lost a dreaded hotshot. The game went to Norwest, but I think that everyone who played was a winner after enjoying such a wonderfully friendly game in such good company. Thanks, Paulton for the lovely tea after the game and congratulations to Colin and Annabel Curtis, Dave Ball and Carol Mears for your Hotshot. We look forward to August 21st when we meet again at Norwest.

Just a reminder that our away day to Lyme Regis is on this coming Sunday, July 31st and it’s an 8.30 start from the clubhouse. Don’t be late.
