It’s been yet another busy week for our bowlers at Norwest. Not the best start for the lads when on Wednesday they lost their MSL game away to Chew Stoke, managing to take only 2 of the 16 points on offer. However they were back on form for the Saturday County League East games. Both games were played at home with the A team playing Paulton while the B team played Keynsham C and although the opponents were different the results were the same, with our boys claiming 10 – 2 victories. Great work boys.
The two Ladies League games were both lost although we did manage to claim two points from each game. It’s been a very difficult season for our Ladies, who have struggled on valiantly despite having several experienced players out through injury and health problems. We have been lucky to have had some new ladies join us without whom we would not have survived the season. Thanks girls, you’ve been a godsend. The news for next season is looking very promising for alongside our new ladies we look forward to welcoming back Jean, Jackie, Val and Bett. Get well soon girls, we’ve really missed you.
We had a beautiful sunny start for our Away Day to Lyme Regis on Sunday and although it turned a little chilly later on it remained dry and bright. Our ‘charabanc’ was as usual driven by John from John Martin Coaches but this time he was accompanied by ‘the wife’, Linda. Thanks, great service as always John and we hope to be seeing more of Linda at Norwest having a go on the green in the near future. We had a super welcome from the Lyme Regis bowlers and enjoyed a really friendly afternoon of bowls in great company. Although Lyme Regis won 4 of the 7 rinks, Norwest claimed overall victory by 6 shots. Congratulations to Keith Coombes, Graham Pitt, Bill Brooks and Dave Netherwood who had the winning rink and commiserations to Maggie Roberts and Ron Bryant for their skill in the art of the Wrong Bias. Thanks also to Eric Obern for organising the day, another triumph, Eric, and to the Lyme Regis bowls club for their hospitality and transporting both bowlers and woods up ‘that hill’ after the game.
