Now guys, are you looking for an excuse to get away from ‘er indoors?

The gym too much like hard work, not quite fit enough for running around a field chasing a ball and the local golfing fraternity not quite your style? Well, here’s just the thing for you: a nice bit of gentle exercise, a game where you can be as serious, or not, as you wish, great company and she can’t moan because it’s sport and good for your health: of course you needn’t mention the club bar where it’s essential to mull over the various brilliant shots you played and chuckle about your mate’s wrong bias! What more could you want?

Now after all the build-up you’re desperate to know what I’m talking about; well it’s lawn bowls and this is where I hear you groan and say, “Oh no not Bowls, that’s for old people” and yes, you’re right, lots of older people do play, because with age comes wisdom and us oldies know a good thing when we see it.

So how about it? Why not pop along and give it a try: you’ve got nothing to lose. We’ve got three Open Evening coming up or you can nip in for a chat anytime. Our open evenings are on Tuesday, 17th, Wednesday, 18th and Thursday, 19th of April, just a week away, and they start from 6 p.m. until dusk. You’ll find us on the Fosseway and our drive runs between Buildbase and Norton Range Football ground. We can lend you some woods, all you need are some flat shoes, and if you decide to join us your first year’s membership is free.

Now I’m in the dog house: I can hear all you girls saying, “What about us”, well don’t worry, we wouldn’t leave you out. You’ll be very welcome too. We have a small, very friendly Ladies team and are always grateful for new ladies to join us. Same rules apply, just flat shoes, although the green does need spiking – I’m not sure stilettos would do it!

And now just a reminder for members: Names on board please, for President’s Day and also there are some games up which need names. So come on, polish up those woods and welcome to the 2018 season!
