Short (and hopefully sweet!) report, as our usual reporter is away on holiday. Our friendly game last Saturday against Alexandra Park unfortunately had to be called off, due to the very heavy rainfall.

It was still raining on Sunday morning, but by lunchtime the sun came out and made the going quite good, so our Captain’s Day was able to go ahead. Although the green dried up a bit, the wind was quite cool, and coats had to be donned. We started the day with the usual Spider and then onto the team games, stopping after ten ends for a very welcome cup of tea, which was good for warming hands on.

After 21 ends, everyone retired to the Club House for a most delicious tea, before the formal part of the day. The presentations were then made as follows – Winner of the Spider was Roy Selway, presented with a bottle of wine. Trophies were then presented to Men’s Winner – Keith Coombes, and Ladies’ Winner – Mary Harston. The Men’s Wooden Spoon was presented to Roy Selway, and the Ladies’ Wooden Spoon was presented to one of our new Ladies, Penny Seviour.

Paul and Anne then thanked Sue, Mary, Lin and Kingman for all their hard work, preparing such a wonderful spread, and presented them each with with a lovely bouquet of flowers. Thanks was given also to the busy barman, Pat, who kept the liquid flowing all through the afternoon. We had a lovely raffle, so thanks go to you all for the donation of prizes and for purchasing tickets.
