It is my very sad duty this week to pass on the news of the death of Harold Stephens.
Harold was a quiet and very private man, but for all that he was a greatly valued member and friend to all at Norwest. He was always ready to lend a hand or give support to anyone who needed it, but he’d do it in his own, quiet way, not expecting any praise.
If Harold said he’d do something, you knew it would be done, and done well – he was a great supporter of Norwest Ladies, often coming to watch our games and putting the kettle on, washing up and putting the gear away. It was his gentle sense of humour which was one of his most endearing features, and I know Norwest will be a much poorer place without him.
Harold’s funeral will take place at Haycombe, Bath (in the top chapel) on Friday, 8th February at 10.15 a.m. Harold was well-known in the local area, and I know Bett and her family have been greatly touched by all the messages of sympathy they have received. Our thoughts and love are with Bett, Kim and Scott at this very sad time.
Now for happier news: Saturday saw a good turnout for Cilla and Clayton’s quiz. We were bombarded with questions on many diverse subjects, including Kings and Queens, Money Matters and Pot Luck, with a very tricky picture quiz thrown in for good measure. The quizzers enjoyed a great American supper midway through, and there was a great selection of raffle prizes up for grabs.
It was a nailbiting finish, with two teams; Janet and Steve Curtis with Val and Ron Bryant up against the Holmes (yes, that’s me, Brian and our two granddaughters, Ayeisha and Chloe), tying for first place. In a head-to-head decider, the honours went to the Holmes, due to Brian’s amazing knowledge of the London Marathon.
Our thanks must go to Cilla and Clayton our quizitors, all who helped behind the bar, everyone who supplied food and prizes and also those who came along to help make it such a very enjoyable evening.
